Kofax Capture V8 Released

Kofax announced the release of a new major version of its Ascent Capture product suite.  And, as part of Kofax’s corporate-wide rebranding efforts, the new product is now known as Kofax Capture V8.  Also rebranded are the following product modules:

• Kofax Capture Network Server (formerly Ascent Capture Internet Server)
• Kofax Communications Server (formerly Ascent Collection Server)
• Kofax Transformation Modules (formerly Xtrata Pro and Indicius)

Notably one of the most feature-packed upgrades ever released by Kofax, the new Kofax Capture V8 offers those who upgrade the following enhancements:

• Staging and Setup - Ability to migrate configuration data (batch classes, user profiles, remote site profiles) between different Kofax Capture systems (i.e. development, staging, and production)
• Scanner Management - Share and manage scanner profiles among multiple Kofax Capture workstations; easily add scanners within Kofax Capture
• Copy / Paste - Copy and reuse objects such as batch classes, folder classes, document classes, form types, and zones.
• Multiple Workflow Agents - Support for multiple workflow agents per batch class
• .NET Scripting - Robust scripting editor with integrated debugging tools, improved user interface capabilities, and easy access to program libraries
• Automatic Batch Naming - Ability to configure your Kofax Capture batch names using criteria you define
• Rubber Band OCR - Runtime recognition of selected typewritten text (OCR), handwritten text (ICR), or bar codes
• User/Group Routing -  Route batches to specific individuals and/or groups for specialized processing
• Panel Lock/Reset - Ability to lock docked panels and toolbars or reset if incorrect
• Enable/Disable Menu and Toolbar Buttons -  Ability to enable/disable menu items and toolbar buttons by user and/or group
• PDF/A Support - Release images in a PDF archival file format
• Security Enhancements - Reduced client permissions; client certificate support; basic/integrated authentication support; simplified configuration of Web Server; elimination of WebDAV requirement
• Microsoft Vista Support - Support for the latest Microsoft operating system
• Release Script Enhancements - Faster database release script; folder support and file name control for the text release script
• Remote Site Release - Ability to release images and data at a remote site

Enterprise Features include the following:

• Disaster Recovery - Central site automatic fail-over to alternate central sites; 100% retention of remote batches in progress if a central site fails. Provides reliability; business continuity; data integrity; insulation from central site disaster; transparency.
• Load Balancing - Dynamic, static, or programmatic load-balancing options for remote site image and data uploads. Minimizes operational costs.
• SNMP Monitoring - Monitors and manages Kofax Capture status using SNMP monitoring tools or included viewer. Provides reliability.
• IBM DB2 Support - IBM DB2 can be used for all Kofax Capture databases. Leverages industry standards; enables alignment with staff knowledge; utilizes your company’s preferred database.
• Oracle Database Support - Oracle Database can be used for all Kofax Capture databases/ Leverages industry standards; enables alignment with staff knowledge; utilizes your company’s preferred database.
