Kofax Adrenaline End-Of-Life Announcement

After a long and storied career, the time has come for Kofax to retire the last of its Adrenaline SCSI controller cards.   The computer industry’s migration to smaller cases and incompatible 64-bit operating systems, as well as scanner manufacturers’ increasing preference for USB as their interface of choice, are signals that the SCSI add-in board era is coming to an end.

To help customers prepare for Adrenaline’s retirement, over the next nine months Kofax will withdraw Adrenaline 650 and 650i boards from the market in two phases.  In the first phase, Kofax will discontinue all VRS 4.2 Professional products that are sold bundled with an Adrenaline card.  In the second phase, Adrenaline boards sold separately will be discontinued.

Last buy date of December 31, 2008 for these products, which include the following Adrenaline boards:

• VP-W004-00S5 VRS 4.2 Professional for Workgroup Scanning SCSI (5-pack)
• VP-W004-0S25 VRS 4.2 Professional for Workgroup Scanning SCSI (25-pack)
• VP-WH04-00S1 VRS 4.2 Professional for Workgroup Scanning SCSI (w/ dongle)
• VP-P004-00S1 VRS 4.2 Professional for Production Scanning SCSI
• VP-P004-00S5 VRS 4.2 Professional for Production Scanning SCSI (5-pack)
• VP-P004-0S25 VRS 4.2 Professional for Production Scanning SCSI (25-pack)
• VP-PH04-00S1 VRS 4.2 Professional for Production Scanning SCSI (w/ dongle)

Last buy date of March 31, 2009 for these Adrenaline board-only products:

• EH-0650-1000 Adrenaline 650
• EH-0650-2000 Adrenaline 650i
• EH-0650-2005 Adrenaline 650i (5-pack)
• EH-0650-2025 Adrenaline 650i (25-pack)

Support for Adrenaline boards will continue through March 31, 2012.

Please note that there are no plans at this time to discontinue sales of Adrenaline software engines (e.g., ES-5000-1002, ES-5000-9999).  Over the next nine months, look for a separate document on news.kofax.com that will detail circumstances in which Adrenaline boards should not be used (i.e., known incompatible PCs).  You can also consult with Kofax’s pre-sales or technical support group to determine if an Adrenaline card would be appropriate for your planned PC & scanner configuration.
